Please tell us about your stay.
This was my first time staying at the Hostel and now it's the only place I want to stay. The Wanderlust has been lie a home for the entire visit. Playing with the pooches and Porkchop was great, and you were excellent hostel. Can't wait until the next chance to come back to Gunni! It really has been a blast...
Nothing but good people and good vibes at The Wanderlust! I will recommend this to everyone coming this way. Thanks so much Amy and Kelsey. Hope to see you real soon!
When I came in the door I didn't know I would find two sisters I never knew I had! Thank you for your kindness and gracious hospitality. Best of luck to you both!
The Wanderlust Hostel is my favorite place in Gunnison! It's an ideal basecamp for adventures in Gunnison, Crested Butte, or The Black Canyon. I feel at home when I'm there. Amy and Kelsey are awesome, and so is Porkchop, the cat, and Coal, the doggy dog.
Had a great time while staying in Gunnison at the Wanderlust - Amy and Kelsey are the best and have great advice for any endeavors you might have. They even found me a great optometrist! The bus to CB is literally 2 minutes out the backdoor and Gunny has some great food as well. I will be back for sure.
I LOVED staying here! Thank you so much for hosting--and especially for the upgrade! I will be talking about this place for years, and hopefully returning soon!
I lived at the Wanderlust for a month to visit my best friend. I'd never been to Gunnison before, so I didn't really know what to expect. I'd never even been to a hostel either, except one time in France, in a room where I had to sleep with my feet against the door so that no one would break in and murder me with a croissant. Fortunately, that wasn't a concern for me while staying at The Wanderlust.
I honestly don't know how to put into words the experience I had while staying there. To start, Amy and the rest of the hostel posse are some of the most genuinely warmhearted individuals I've ever met. I came at a time when I'd be living in Brooklyn for four months and had the city pulse rattling me to the bone. Not only did they go out of there way to make me feel relaxed and welcome, they made sure that I didn't leave Colorado without having first experienced the outdoor activities that make it a beautiful place to live.
I only stayed for a month, but I've taken to heart the friendships I made there, both from Amy and Co. and all the other guests who came through. I met a lot of people in a month, and I can assure anyone who's reading this that each unique individual who wandered through was shown the same respect and kindness that I experienced. But whether you experience it for a day or longer, the pleasures remain the same. There's a cozy living room and a giant fridge. There's a mysterious cat who wanders in and out of the house when she's not posting selfies on her blog. There's a mannequin and a closet full of costumes. There's an immaculately painted deck, garage and picnic table. (What master could have painted these objects? I often wondered to myself, so expertly executed, the deck like a glittering sea of margerine in the afternoon sunlight.) There's even Mickey Mouse bedsheets, if you should desire them.
I think I may have to experience other hostels as a form of comparison, but I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that The Wanderlust has ruined me in some way. They've set the bar too high. Other places will have to smother me with chocolate to come even close. Life's funny that way. Who knew that when I was just looking for a place to sleep I would have found a home?
I had a wonderful time at your home. Thanks to Kelsey for making me feel so welcome. I mentioned that I was going to CB to look for wildflowers and she pulls out a book with some suggested hikes. It was just perfect. I am making plans to visit when the aspen change colour.
We just loved loved loved the Hostel and its awesome owner and creator Amy!We'll come again sometime!Greetings from GermanyMerve and Mecki
Thank you so much for your hospitality. The hostel was so comfortable and a perfect "base" for us to use as we explored the area. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful town & area! We will definitely be back--as you could probably tell, it was very difficult for us to leave :)
Thank you sooo much for sharing your wonderful home with us! We love CB and Gunny, and you topped it for us. Everything was here and felt "just like home".
Loved staying here with you! You've got a truley original thing going here and I hope to come back soon. The decor and welcoming energy is amazing! Thanks for EVERYTHING!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this sweet little space. The calm, homey energy of the hostel, plus your warm welcoming nature were incredibly appreciated! We had a lovely time staying here; getting to know you and this gorgeous area. We look forward to our next visit to The Wanderlust!
Wow, what a great find! This place is awesome, in a quiet neighborhood just a short walk to downtown Gunnison.
Amy was a wonderful host and so were her parents...we felt like extended family. The accommodations were super comfortable and everyone was very respectful of quiet hours. Very nice backyard with a grill and firepit, great kitchen, living and dining areas...we truly felt like it was our home away from home. We'll never stay anywhere else when visiting our son in Gunnison, we're already talking about our next trip.
We give the Wanderlust Hostel a five+ star rating...it was truly a bed between adventures and so much more!
I Stayed at the Wander Lust for only a night on my way to orientation at Western State College, But it was the most comfortable night I had in town. Fantastic company, great location, and a warm bed. And Amy is a total sweetheart! What more could wanderers ask for?
Thanks for everything! The welcome, the snuggly cat, a circle of friends, movies, the cozy fireplace, and another warm welcome when our flight was delayed! You've created something wonderfull here. It was a perfect first hostel experience!
Seems there are few things that make a trip more enjoyable than things that go better than expected. Recently a friend suggested we meet in Gunnison to play for a few days and she had a great place planned for us to stay, right?
One look at Amy with her New Year hair-do and I knew this place was different. Buildings tend to take on the character of their hosts and it was easy to see why this place felt more like a warm home than an ordinary hostel. Not short on character, not short on anything at all. Nice kitchen, easy walk to restaurants, fire in the fireplace, and a good warm bed that had me wishing there was more time in the day.
My daughter and I came to Gunnison all the way from New Hampshire to visit Western State College. Our stay at the Wanderlust was warm and cozy. Hanging out in the living room on very comfortable furniture with the fire going watching a movie, relaxing and reading really made the grueling travel for us much less stressful. I would highly recommend staying here, its a little piece of home away from home with all the amenities, especially the well stocked kitchen! The beds were very comfortable and all areas of the house are very clean. Amy the hostess is very welcoming without being overbearing and the other guests there were very interesting to share stories with. The Wanderlust will definitely be the place I stay when I visit if my daughter decides to go to Western State.
We enjoyed the stay here. It was perfect for us as hunters. We could not have asked for any better hospitality or facilities. We will definitely be in touch on our next trip out. THANKS!!
Thank you all so much for creating such a beautiful place for travelers to stay in Gunnison. We would love to simply move here and stay forever! You have designed the place beautifully and we felt right at home. Thank you so much!www.greenpeace.org
One of the most beautiful hostels in which I have stayed. Thank you for letting us stay in this comfotable place. Best wishes from Germany!
Having been at the Wanderlust Hostel for the last six days, I am sorry toleave. This place is a wonderful mix of home and away. I stayed in aprivate room, had access to two shared bathrooms (never a problem), and made use of the whole house, including a kitchen with teapot and good tea, the front deck and back porch, phone (free long distance, and me with no cell phone!), and wireless access. Amy is a wonderful host, helpful, friendly, and commited to providing a clean and cool place. I only hesitate to write this positive review because I think it is the best kept secret of Gunnison, and I want to be sure to get a room whenever I come to town, so I hope it doesn't get TOO busy!
