While riding our bicycles from San Francisco to Michigan we overshot our campground just west of Gunnison. Much to our delight we found Amy and the Wanderlust hostel. We had no expectations going in but had we they would have truly been exceeded. The Wanderlust is clean and well organized; I don't think there was any amenity that was forgotten in the planning of this accomodation. But mostly it is the people that we met while there, to include Amy and her mom, that made this stay a genuine surprise for all of us! Thank you Amy for a really great stay! If we're ever traveling through Gunnison we will be sure to look to you for another stay. Thank you~ Pat and Peter Hopkins Monmouth, UK and Dewey Wobma Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I stumbled on this hostel quite by accident. My season pass at another resort was part of the Powder Alliance which gave me 3 free days of riding at Crested Butte, among others. So I worked my way down the Rockies and ended up at the Wanderlust.

My, what an amazing surprise! This place ranks among the nicest hostels I've ever experienced! The wood burning stove especially, combined with the decor and cleanliness of the facility and of course the adventuresome people one meets, makes this place a true gem.

The entire family spent the Christmas holidays at the Wanderlust - all fifteen of us. We had all our kids and grandchildren with us. The Wanderlust was awesome. The facilities are very nice. We enjoyed the fireplace, the backyard and the friendliness of the staff. There is a lot to do in Gunnison. The kids and older grandkids went skiing at Crested Butte. The lift ticket deals are awesome. We all hated to leave. All of us highly recommend the Wanderlust!

First time to ever stay at a hostel and we loved it ! Amy, Katie, Kelsey and Alex were so nice and inviting and made us feel completely at home. They have some great pets that helped us because we missed our own pets.

We already have our reservations for January . We recommend this place they really are wonderful people!

The Wanderlust is not to be missed if you're in Gunnison! Amy's hostel is creatively designed, super clean, and the people that stay are cool. Good vibes all around here. There are so many activities right outside the hostel's door. Whether you climb, hike, bike, raft, fish, or you just want to grab a bite to eat, Amy knows all the best places. We're already planning to come back and visit!

The Wanderlust Hostel is my favorite place in Gunnison! It's an ideal basecamp for adventures in Gunnison, Crested Butte, or The Black Canyon. I feel at home when I'm there. Amy and Kelsey are awesome, and so is Porkchop, the cat, and Coal, the doggy dog.

Had a great time while staying in Gunnison at the Wanderlust - Amy and Kelsey are the best and have great advice for any endeavors you might have. They even found me a great optometrist! The bus to CB is literally 2 minutes out the backdoor and Gunny has some great food as well. I will be back for sure.

I lived at the Wanderlust for a month to visit my best friend. I'd never been to Gunnison before, so I didn't really know what to expect. I'd never even been to a hostel either, except one time in France, in a room where I had to sleep with my feet against the door so that no one would break in and murder me with a croissant. Fortunately, that wasn't a concern for me while staying at The Wanderlust.

I honestly don't know how to put into words the experience I had while staying there. To start, Amy and the rest of the hostel posse are some of the most genuinely warmhearted individuals I've ever met. I came at a time when I'd be living in Brooklyn for four months and had the city pulse rattling me to the bone. Not only did they go out of there way to make me feel relaxed and welcome, they made sure that I didn't leave Colorado without having first experienced the outdoor activities that make it a beautiful place to live.

I only stayed for a month, but I've taken to heart the friendships I made there, both from Amy and Co. and all the other guests who came through. I met a lot of people in a month, and I can assure anyone who's reading this that each unique individual who wandered through was shown the same respect and kindness that I experienced. But whether you experience it for a day or longer, the pleasures remain the same. There's a cozy living room and a giant fridge. There's a mysterious cat who wanders in and out of the house when she's not posting selfies on her blog. There's a mannequin and a closet full of costumes. There's an immaculately painted deck, garage and picnic table. (What master could have painted these objects? I often wondered to myself, so expertly executed, the deck like a glittering sea of margerine in the afternoon sunlight.) There's even Mickey Mouse bedsheets, if you should desire them.

I think I may have to experience other hostels as a form of comparison, but I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that The Wanderlust has ruined me in some way. They've set the bar too high. Other places will have to smother me with chocolate to come even close. Life's funny that way. Who knew that when I was just looking for a place to sleep I would have found a home?

I had a wonderful time at your home. Thanks to Kelsey for making me feel so welcome. I mentioned that I was going to CB to look for wildflowers and she pulls out a book with some suggested hikes. It was just perfect. I am making plans to visit when the aspen change colour.

Thank you so much for your hospitality. The hostel was so comfortable and a perfect "base" for us to use as we explored the area. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful town & area! We will definitely be back--as you could probably tell, it was very difficult for us to leave :)

Thank you sooo much for sharing your wonderful home with us! We love CB and Gunny, and you topped it for us. Everything was here and felt "just like home".

Loved staying here with you! You've got a truley original thing going here and I hope to come back soon. The decor and welcoming energy is amazing! Thanks for EVERYTHING!!!

Wow, what a great find! This place is awesome, in a quiet neighborhood just a short walk to downtown Gunnison.

Amy was a wonderful host and so were her parents...we felt like extended family. The accommodations were super comfortable and everyone was very respectful of quiet hours. Very nice backyard with a grill and firepit, great kitchen, living and dining areas...we truly felt like it was our home away from home. We'll never stay anywhere else when visiting our son in Gunnison, we're already talking about our next trip.

We give the Wanderlust Hostel a five+ star rating...it was truly a bed between adventures and so much more!

I Stayed at the Wander Lust for only a night on my way to orientation at Western State College, But it was the most comfortable night I had in town. Fantastic company, great location, and a warm bed. And Amy is a total sweetheart! What more could wanderers ask for?

Thanks for everything! The welcome, the snuggly cat, a circle of friends, movies, the cozy fireplace, and another warm welcome when our flight was delayed! You've created something wonderfull here. It was a perfect first hostel experience!

Seems there are few things that make a trip more enjoyable than things that go better than expected. Recently a friend suggested we meet in Gunnison to play for a few days and she had a great place planned for us to stay, right?

One look at Amy with her New Year hair-do and I knew this place was different. Buildings tend to take on the character of their hosts and it was easy to see why this place felt more like a warm home than an ordinary hostel. Not short on character, not short on anything at all. Nice kitchen, easy walk to restaurants, fire in the fireplace, and a good warm bed that had me wishing there was more time in the day.

My daughter and I came to Gunnison all the way from New Hampshire to visit Western State College. Our stay at the Wanderlust was warm and cozy. Hanging out in the living room on very comfortable furniture with the fire going watching a movie, relaxing and reading really made the grueling travel for us much less stressful. I would highly recommend staying here, its a little piece of home away from home with all the amenities, especially the well stocked kitchen! The beds were very comfortable and all areas of the house are very clean. Amy the hostess is very welcoming without being overbearing and the other guests there were very interesting to share stories with. The Wanderlust will definitely be the place I stay when I visit if my daughter decides to go to Western State.
